Deployment Options

Choose where to host your Gorilla instance

Gorilla generates a static website that can be deployed to various hosting platforms. All of the recommended options have generous free tiers that are perfect for free, family use.

Choosing a Platform

What You'll Need

Before deploying to any platform, make sure you have:

  • Gorilla App: Download if you haven't already.
  • YouTube API Key: Follow the Gorlla app instructions or the YouTube API Key guide if you haven't created one yet.
  • Customized Configuration: Edit your channels, timer settings, and PIN before deploying.

General Deployment Process

While each platform has its own specifics, the general process is similar:

1

Generate and Preview Your Site Locally

Use Gorilla to confirm everything looks good. Reminder, in preview mode, it may initially only show a couple videos. This is by design.

2

Click Deploy Your App

Gorilla will guide you through publication options.

3

Deploy!

Trigger your first deployment. The platform will build your site and give you a live URL.

♾️

Re-Deploy as Needed!

Reconfigure channels. Add more. Right in the Gorilla app. Repeat as needed.

After Deployment

Once deployed, you can:

  • Share the URL with your children so they can start watching
  • Add a custom domain (optional, e.g., example.com)
  • Update channels by redeploying
  • Add more videos by redeploying

Cost Expectations

💰 Typical Costs

For most families: $0/month

  • ✓ Free hosting tier covers typical usage
  • ✓ Free YouTube API quota is sufficient

Optional costs:

  • • Custom domain: ~$10-15/year
  • • Heavy bandwidth usage: ~$10-20/month (if you exceed free tier)
